08/30/22011
The Fifth Annual Walk to Break the Silence, the largest fundraiser and awareness event for the Nebraska Chapter of the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, is slated for Saturday, Sept. 24.
Methodist Estabrook Cancer Center and Midwest GYN Oncology are sponsors of this year’s event.
The walk will take place at Lake Zorinsky, with 1 mile or 4 mile routes available. Event registration begins at 7:30 a.m., followed by opening remarks at 9 a.m. Registration is $20 - $25 per walker depending on the date registered.
According to the American Cancer Society, ovarian cancer is the deadliest of all gynecologic cancers. If diagnosed early, the five-year survival rate is over 90 percent. Of the 21,880 women diagnosed last year, statistically, only 46 percent will survive beyond five years.
